1-year limited warranty

This is the full text of the warranty on the refurbished computers and screens you can put together on our hardware page. It’s written to be read, not skimmed past, so it’s short. We give a copy with every quote.

Who gives it, and who it covers

The warranty comes from Octachain Inc., in Los Angeles, California. It covers the person or business that bought the computer or screen from us. It doesn’t pass to anyone else if the computer is sold or given away.

What it covers

The computers on our hardware page, in any mix of the options there, together with their power adapters.
The refurbished screens bought with them.

What it doesn’t cover

Keyboards and mice.
Hardware we find to order (anything you ask for under “Something else”), even when we buy it for you. If it’s new and comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty, that warranty still applies, and we’ll help you use it.
Damage from accidents or outside causes: drops, spills, power surges, fire, theft, or use the computer wasn’t made for.
Repairs or changes made by someone other than us.
Normal wear: scratches, scuffs, faded labels.
Software problems and viruses. We can fix those as a regular job.

How long it lasts

One year from the day we deliver the computer or screen to you. A replacement we give you under this warranty is covered for the rest of that year.

What we’ll do

If a covered computer or screen stops working because of a defect during that year:

We swap it. We bring an identical one, or a better one if that model is no longer available.
We copy your setup onto it, so you can keep working where you left off, as long as the old computer’s drive still works.
We take the broken one with us, but not its drive. The drive stays with you, so your files never leave with us.

If the computer’s own drive has failed, so your setup can’t be copied, we set up the new one fresh and restore your files from your backup, if you have one. Without a backup, we’ll either set up a replacement computer fresh, or replace the failed part and test the computer.

There’s no charge for any of this in the Los Angeles area.

Where

We do the swap in person, in the Los Angeles area. If you’re outside it, get in touch anyway: we’ll work it out case by case, and sometimes we can bring the replacement ourselves.

Your files

Please keep a backup of your files. We copy your setup across when the old drive still works, but no warranty can bring back files from a drive that has died. Getting files off a failed drive (data recovery) isn’t part of this warranty: it’s a separate job, quoted separately.

How to use it

Get in touch by email at info@octachainlabs.com or by phone, and tell us what’s wrong.
Have your invoice handy (or its number). It shows what you bought and when.
We’ll arrange a time to bring the replacement.

The legal part

We’re not responsible for lost data, lost business or other indirect losses caused by a defect. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you.

Any implied warranties, including the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, last 3 months from the date of sale, the longest time California allows for used goods. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
